Low prices for big-screen plasmas and LCDs are great, but there’s a certain wow factor when you can show the Super Bowl on a 100-plus inch screen, or throw in “The Matrix” or “Harry Potter” or “Planet Earth” on such a screen in Full HD 1080p.

If you’re in the market for a projector, ProjectorPeople.com has a great deal on a 1080p model, the Mitsubishi HC4900 LCD projector. It’ll cost you only $1,399 if you grab it between now and Feb. 14.

Here’s the breakdown of the cost: regular price of $2,495 is on a sale for $1,999; there’s a rebate from Mitsubishi that you can send in for $500 back; and from now until Feb. 14 there’s an additional $100 Valentine’s coupon from ProjectorPeople; and free FedEx ground shipping.

That’s pretty sweet for 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1000 lumens, 7500:1 contrast, 2000-hour lamp life (5000 in low mode) and two-year warranty.

Even if you miss the Valentine’s deadline, the Mitsu rebate runs until the end of February, and ProjectorPeople’s Jennifer Andrews says there are plenty in stock so she doesn’t see the $1,999 price changing soon—so you can still enter the world of 1080p projection for a mere $1,499.

Be wary of the mail in rebate. The terms state:

Allow up to 8 weeks for processing of mail-in offer. If Mail-in offer is not received within 8 weeks, customer must notify Mitsubishi by emailing PVS_Promotions@mdea.com no later than 60 days after submission, or all rights hereunder will expire.

Cheque back offers are designed to trip you up with their small print. The above term gives you a 4 day window in which to query non-receipt of your cheque (8 weeks is 56 days). If you don’t receive your cheque and don’t ask them about it during that 4-day window you forfeit the cash.
