Deal: Mirage OMNI 5 Outdoor Speakers - $299.00
A pair of the Oasis OMNI 5 outdoor speakers, featuring a 360 degree dispersion system, will make mowing the grass almost fun... almost.
May 19, 2008 | by Gordon Jones

If you plan to spend any amount of time outside this summer, be it at a grill, in a pool, or more likely, behind a mower, listen up… literally. It’s time to ditch the iPod and give your party guests (and neighbors) a lesson in music culture with today’s deal - a pair of Mirage Oasis OMNI 5 outdoor speakers.

The entire Oasis line (there are larger versions if you’re interested) features a patented passive radiator design, allowing for better lows (a notable weakness in many outdoor speakers) and an omnipolar tweeter mounted in Mirage’s proprietary OMNIGUIDE dispersion system. That 360 approach aims at getting your tunes out into the yard and, hopefully, bouncing off some walls for that true concert feel.

Inside each speaker you’ll find a 5.5” Polypropylene Titanium Deposit Hybrid woofer, a 5 ½” passive radiator and a 1” Pure Titanium Hybrid (PTH) tweeter. They have a frequency response of 65 Hz to 20 kHz and 100 Watt RMS power handling which is pretty good for a speaker this size and purpose.

Obviously, these Mirages are weather resistant and even include a mounting bracket for decks, eves, or wherever you decide to tuck them into. They’re available in black or white and come with a 5-year limited warranty.

Sale price: $299.00 a pair (free s/h)

actually, from the pics at mirage (the omni 6 at least), the speakers are hung upside down, addressing the issues you mention, Tom. and yes, i agree, the polks are a nice speaker. on my short list as we speak, wife permitting ;)

This is a horrible design for an outdoor speaker.

By having one of the drivers on the top, you will have rain and even snow accumulate in the well that the driver creates with no where to drain. This standing cesspool will no doubt destroy the driver over time, not to mention the cosemetic changes that will occur.

Best overall outdoor speakers for the money are Polk Atruim speakers.
