Winter is on the way. The air is getting cooler, crisper, and dryer. Evenings and weekends will be spent indoors cuddled around the fire. And by fire I mean television, because that’s what we do.
Of course, a couple of hundred years ago everyone really did huddle by the fireplaces. What makes us think of that is seeing the mini-series John Adams on Blu-ray, a very well done historical drama of our revolutionary times.
Best Buy currently has the HBO series John Adams on Blu-ray disc (it comes as three Blu-rays) for a low $24.99. HBO series are usually grossly overpriced (even more so on Blu-ray), which anyone who’s bought a season of The Sopranos, Sex and the City, or Rome will attest to.
While it may not have the trendiness or sex appeal of most HBO fare, John Adams is compelling, well written (taken from the best-selling David McCullough book), and extremely well performed, led by Paul Giamatti as Adams. At the current price, this is an excellent stocking stuffer for any historical drama buff.
