‘Shooter’ is up for grabs at $1.99 on iNetVideo

I’m not going to advocate grabbing an HD DVD player (though you can certainly get one on the cheap these days) at this point if you’re able to shell out for a Blu-ray player, but if you’re content on hanging on to one you already own, head over to iNetVideo.

Chances are you’re already familiar with the site, basically an online warehouse that buys up a bunch of discs and sells them to us at pretty sweet prices. The Blu-ray deals are pretty good, but for a dead format iNetVideo does a great job of replenishing its HD DVD selection—usually hovering around 120 to 140 choices when the latest stock arrives.

And when it’s replenished, that’s when the website really lowers its bottom prices. The latest email they sent me was the lowest I’d seen—$1.99 for select titles. Sure, only Eddie Murphy diehards might want “Norbit,” but there are some decent efforts among the 21 available $1.99 choices right now.

If you’re a disc collector, and we know plenty of dedicated theater owners over at the AVS Forum who still live for these red high-def discs, you can easily augment your collection with this sale. If you’re willing to go up to $3.99 for an HD DVD, it’ll double your options to around 40.

Among the $1.99 picks we could see grabbing: “Happy Feet” for the kiddies, “Sleepy Hollow” (from Tim Burton), “The Fountain” (from Darren Aronofsky), “Lethal Weapon,” “Disturbia” and “Transformers” to name a few. That should tide us over until the website ventures below a buck.

And hey, if you find some of these cheapies you like and they’re from Warner Bros., you can always have them in HD DVD and Blu-ray by sending in the cover art and $4.95 to get a pretty inexpensive Blu-ray version.

With the turnover at iNetVideo, at least a decent size faction of theater enthusiasts must still be buying up these HD DVDs, no?
