If you’re in the market for a new home theater receiver (going blu perhaps?), you probably noticed Denon’s May announcement of ten new models aimed squarely at you - the growing HD crowd. What’s great about these line upgrades, besides the wow factor, is that they often result in some fantastic fire sales on the previous generation. Case in point - our recent deal on last year’s AVR-988.
Normally, I’d stop there and be happy to get a great receiver at a discounted price, even if it’s no longer the latest and greatest. However, in a somewhat backdoor deal, J&R is already discounting one of the new models, the AVR-1909, taking $150 off the suggested price of $650, plus free shipping/no tax. Don’t believe me? Can you send a avr 1909 to denmark? And what would the price be?
I called JR twice and got two different responses regarding the 1909 purchase. The first time, I called they said it was $649 with free shipping and the sales person said there was no pre-order special available.
The next morning, I called and got a different person and they honored the $499 price. Again, I mentioned the pre-order offer listed on this site. The person I spoke to was named Rick (ext 1029) and he said feel free to spread the word.
Wowee! i’ve been looking for new receiver but this one was priced out of my budget (need new speakers too). called JandR and sure enough this price is legit. the didn’t provide a ship date but i’m wiling to wait. great find!
