If only home networking were as easy as hooking up your cable TV ... well, D-Link is trying to make it that way and is now shipping a starter kit to help you expand your network a tad more conveniently perhaps.

The company announced that it’s now shipping its HD MediaBridge Coax Network Starter Kit (DXN-221), which bridges your existing coaxial (cable) wiring with your home network.

There are so many Ethernet-ready devices out there it’s hard to keep track these days, but you may have a Blu-ray player, gaming console, TiVo, set-top box video streamer and more sitting and waiting to access the network you’ve got installed in another room. The MediaBridge Kit gives you two HD MediaBridge Coax Network Adapters—they each have an Ethernet RJ-45 connector port and an F-type coax connector so you can tap into that room’s existing outlet.

The D-Link devices will deliver your high-def-quality streaming, working with Windows Vista or Windows XP (SP2) operating systems. Your data will be secure, too, with password protection and data encryption provided for your peace of mind.

The bad news is that the product is already on backorder, but the good news is that it’s listed on D-Link’s store for $156 right now, reduced from an MSRP of $239.99.
