We’ve seen a lot of interest in automated door locks lately. Now, it looks as though Crestron wants to add that option to its growing Crestron Connected brand.
The company just announced a partnership with Yale Real Living, which will add wirelessly controlled door locks into the Crestron Connected line. The end result means that homeowners can lock and unlock doors from any Crestron touchscreen or a mobile device, as well as set schedules and personalize access to the home.
The lock will include the Crestron infiNET EX wireless protocol, so it can receive commands and even even communicate with the other devices via a Crestron control system. No additional programming is required. It works with Crestron touchscreens and the Crestron Mobile Pro/Mobile Pro G for Apple and Android mobile devices.
However, this option doesn’t just lock and unlock the door remotely. The system can be set up so that the door lock can trigger other devices, including lighting, temperature and alarms.
Crestron Connected puts that Crestron magic into a wide variety of third-party source equipment, including projectors, displays and audio/video receivers, so that the devices will operate seamlessly with Crestron control technologies. This latest announcement will be the line’s first residential door lock.
“We’re excited to announce this partnership with a trusted and well-respected company like Yale,” said Steve Samson, Crestron’s director of business development. “The Integration of Yale wirelessly controlled door locks into a Crestron control system provides increased convenience to homeowners, enabling them to remotely grant access to visitors, track who enters the home and when, and much more. Crestron and Yale are taking home security into the future.”
Look for Crestron Connected Yale residential wirelessly controlled door locks to start selling sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
