Normal construction on a home like this would be 18 to 20 months. Being that this one was going to be a showhome, it needed to be completed in nine months or less—crunch time!
Because this property was selected to participate in the Parade of Homes, everything was on a tight time schedule. Not only did the theater need to be completed, but there was other equipment needed throughout the house as well.
Working with an “old castle” theme, the installer needed to meld medieval England with state-of-the-art entertainment.
The theater includes a 119-inch 16:9 front-projection system with 5.1 digital surround sound. The front main speakers and much of the A/V equipment is hidden well behind the wood-screened cabinet doors. The center-channel speaker is actually an in-wall, placed behind the acoustic transparent screen and the rears in the ceiling.
To keep the comfort of home, they installed a row of theater chairs down on the lower level and a large booth—sort of like a mini couch—on the top deck. In the back corner of the theater is a small kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave and built-in icemaker, making it comfortable, but also convenient for entertaining.
