Adding home control doesn’t come cheap, but Control4 is making the purchase slightly less painful with its HC-200.

For $499, this unit can put a suite of home automation goodies in any home or apartment. Of course, if you’re already living large, the unit can act as a secondary device, providing lighting, security, entertainment, and more—even supplying access to the Rhapsody music service. It’s also pretty thin, making it easy to stuff into an existing rack system or cabinet.

“We believe the HC-200 sets a new standard of affordability for home automation,” said Will West, Control4’s CEO. “The evolution of our Home Controller line highlights Control4’s commitment to providing flexible alternatives to fit the different needs of homeowners and in the case of the HC-200 will open the door to new customers who are ready for something more capable than a simple universal remote.”

Other features include audio outputs for iPod hookups, an on-screen HD-enhanced graphic interface, and ZigBee support. There’s also an optional Wi-Fi adapter available.

The HC-200 is scheduled to ship in November.
