Sounds to me like Sony is doing to 360 owners the same thing that Microsoft has been doing to PS3 owners all along: denying them access to content.

MS spends cash to ensure certain downloadable content for games won’t appear on the PS3, and now Sony is giving up licensing revenue to ensure certain movies won’t appear on the 360.

I’d call both companies equally slimey.

@ TurnAbout

Microsoft pays developers a lot of money to CREATE additional content for specific games, none which have come out yet if ever.  Thing is Sony is blocking off content that is readily available everywhere else, probably because they know streaming from the 360 will:

- Devastate the PS3
- Devastate Blu-ray

It’s clear… that Microsoft scares the crap out of Sony, a cowering super-power gone vulnerable to the clutches of Microsoft.

Sony, is pretty pathetic doing this with their content.  Looks like they underestimated the 360, and the idea of online media.  Serves them right - lets see how long this media abuse keeps up when people start asking questions about Sony’s unsportsmanlike conduct…

@Rin

MS paid Rockstar to create GTA IV content, but in other cases they just bribed their way to exclusivity. Take off those Redmond tinted glasses!

These corporate idiots never learn. You can go all the way back to Paramount v. Sony - the Supreme Court case about the Betamax. Paramount said it would “ruin” the movie industiy.  More recently, look at the initial reception compressed music technology (MP3 et al) got.  Geez, can’t you greedy, short sighted a-holes see that you will always be better off if you just DELIVER THE CONTENT! The techno-genie is out of the bottle, kids - learn to deal.

It is pretty slimy (monopoly - anticompetitive) on Sony’s part.  Regardless of content type this sort of vertical integration is not good for consumers.

I wish this site had fanboy filters it is so tiring (I have both systems).

Posted by GoodBoy  on  11/19  at  11:42 AM

The exclusive content isn’t really comparable to this despicable move.

Both sides have done the “exclusive content” as well as “Exclusive titles”  It’s nothing new.

But blocking movies from a competitors platform sounds kinda childish.

It won’t matter.  If movie streaming erally takes off and Sony continues this mentality they started showing with blu-ray vs hd-dvd, I will simply continue to boycott all their products as I have already done so since the rootkit fiasco.

Sony is making a very foolish and arrogant move in a rather sad attempt to keep blu-ray alive (good luck with that).  ; I’ll keep the executives’ decision in mind at the boxoffice and while “renting” (read: screw you Sony, “Spiderman” is complete crap anyway).

Posted by Crude Dude  on  11/19  at  11:57 AM

Sony has hit a new low,I will never buy any of their products again.

Posted by Moviebuff  on  11/19  at  12:36 PM

Like Microsoft never pulls any punches.  BD will be alive and well for a long time to come.  You will all buy a Sony related product in the near future.  Stop the nonsense.

HAHAHA Xbox fanboys serves you right. I am glad they did this. The reason I think they did this is because they are afraid that microsoft might rip em off like they did the wii, look at your new xbox experience remind you of something sort of like wii avatars, wii channels lol. This wasn’t a stupid move they only took the content off of xbox 360, I would too because i hate microsoft. Just remember Sony rules the world dont mess with em. monopoly-anticompetative how is that so it’s not like sony buys out netflix and takes netflix completely away from you gay box users they just took their movies off which I believe is a brilliant move on their part. Why would you give microsoft access to your content if you are trying to compete with them, sony obviously knows how microsoft works which they have done from day 1 steal other ideas just like ol bill did with apple thats how microsoft was created from stealing apples operating system and making windows out of it just because you change the interface a little doesn’t make it yours.

hlol microsoft go wht it deserved. the again i feel bad for them booo hooo

It’s not surprising since Blu Ray says have been really bad in the last couple of months and analysts are predicting the movie side of the Blu Ray business to be completely dead in the next 18 months.

Newsflash! Nobody gives a crap about Blu Ray. Upscaled DVDs look just as good.

Will Sony ever learn? They are all pumped up with their Blu-ray win (well, I don’t think that buying a trophy is the same as winning it) But every time Sony turns around, they do something to make themselves look bad to the consumer.
Hey people! Anyone remember the Root-Kit fiasco in which Sony placed a virus on everybody’s computer who played a Sony CD on it that cause thousands of dollars in problems and cleanup and time? Talk about despicable! Sony needs to be avoided like the plague. Who knows what they will do next…A self-destructing DVD that takes out your player? Heck, they are almost already there with their manufacturing of explosive laptop batteries that catch fire for no reason!
People would do well to understand that Sony has proven it’s self time and time again, they as far as the consumer is concerned, they cannot be trusted. If you don’t believe me, do a Google search on the net for “RootKitRevealer” and download it and run it…If you’ve ever played a Sony CD in your PC, you probably have been infected by this insidious rootkit!
Go ahead, don’t believe me…facts are facts…judge for yourself.

Not surprised at all. It seems like something you’d file under, “Nothing personal, it’s just business.”

If the 360 is successful enough in this venture with Netflicks, Sony will be back.

I think Microsoft’s fan boys Must learn That if they mess with the best there’s something bad that could happen!

@Spydermonkey:

Punctuation.

“Upscaled DVDs look just as good. ” says Sharkman!, haha, ok keep telling yourself that.  Maybe if your tv is smaller than 50” but upscaled DVDs are no match for blu ray on my front projection display.

@Jonas Grumby

Wow, we have an English fanatic here who only cares about punctuatin rather than. Why don’t you go away and leave us real gamers(PS3 gamers) alone. Sony is obviously going to take this fight seriously, hmm I think they just grew an extra set of balls.

Posted by revko1  on  11/19  at  01:18 PM

Another reason why I hate and try to avoid all that it is Sony.

Posted by rice  on  11/19  at  01:35 PM

Slimey?  I used to be a Sony fanboy, then they illegally installed a malicious rootkit on my computer when I inserted a Sony CD into my computer and agreed to use their player to play it.  That’s what I get for actually PAYING for music!

So yeah this netflix thing is pretty lame, but not too surprising.

BTW Sony, I’m pretty happy with my Canon powershot - the first stray from my now-defunct brand loyalty to you.  I also can’t think of one good game exclusive to your PS3, but I’ve been having unique fun with my Wii.  And guess what brand I WON’T be shopping when I go to buy a new LCD TV on Black Friday!

I’m done supporting the sort of economic model that results in decisions like the one in this article.
