So circuit city should do the same thing

Very nice. I bought the 360 add-on last fall and look forward to this. It will go towards my PS3 fund!

dangerdavedsp, Circuit City is already allowing full refunds/tradeins for HD DVD players bought within 90 days of their announcement (made about 3 weeks ago). Depending on how you look at it, that could be considered a better deal than a $50 giftcard.

The Circuit City deal is only better if you bought your HD-DVD player within that 90-day period.  If you bought it before that, then Best Buy’s offer is infinitely better. ;)

This is great!! I bought mine early last year from bestbuy for regular price 499.00, with the 50.00 giftcard sounds good but they could have done better like for example for those who bought their hd dvd players from 499.00 - 299.00 should 100.00 giftcard and for those who bought between 299.00 - below should get 50.00 gift certificate this is a better idea if they really want to compensate their customers. Or they could go 50.00 gift for 499 - 299 and 25.00 bucks for 299.00 and below.  A lot bought their hd dvd players 99.00 so this will really help those who got it for that price. But how about me who bought it first the hd dvd when it first came out for 499.00.

Peter B,

Consider yourself lucky that they are giving you anything at all.  That’s the price you pay for having to be the first to have the technology.

$50 bucks plus the opportunity to unload it.  Someone out there may want a second for a backup.

$50 is better than nothing!
I won’t be trading my HD DVD players for a BD player though.
