I peed in a horse. Once.
Funny, I bought my first DVD player so that I could watch The Matrix on it.
I think it will either fail or will be such a minor success that it will be almost niche. Those glasses need to be in the $10-$15 range before we can even start a conversation about success.
Article was good, snide comment toward FOX news was childish and supercilious…
Ditto on the Fox News comment; would not say a word here if you referenced a more negative personality / network like Keith Obermann and MSNBC.
A little sensitive are we? The title of the other article was 10 reasons 3D tvs MIGHT fail. Yet your title is 10 reasons 3D WILL succeed. So you expect families to spend $100 to $150 for 3D glasses per family member? I guess this will catch on as fast as Blu-ray did. Oh that’s right, it really hasn’t even caught on yet. How long has blu-ray been out? 5 years. Why not try perfecting current technology instead of going to something new? Just a thought.
Article was on the mark. Blu-Ray is catching on faster than DVD, I don’t think most people consider DVD a failure, so I’m not sure what that one commenter meant.
Sharp analogy with the Fox News comment. It could bring some negativity though as Fox viewers aren’t used to the truth…
Someone insulted Fox and I missed it. Man, how rare, and probably how appropriate that would be.
Oberman is negative? Yeah, negative about ignorance, racism, hysteria, utter stupidity….yep, Faux news, Tea Baggers, Palin, the rest of the march to death crew.
And I’ll guess. Faux is utterly clueless about technology of any sort. After all, you can accept technology if you accept that dinosaurs walked with man 6,000 years ago.
Opps….bad english…here’s the fix:
And I’ll guess Faux is utterly clueless about technology of any sort. After all, you can NOT accept technology if you accept that dinosaurs walked with man 6,000 years ago.
With a great HDTV and a BD player, already, I see no good coming out of 3D except for maker-profits. The effect also makes kids and drunks vomit.
As an old guy with 6 kids between my wife’s and mine, who drive me to drink- Everything and Anything makes kids and drunks throw up. Not exactly a valid reason to reject 3d.
Stephen, Great article and all very true.
We have sold a few Samsung 3-D HDTV so far and the clients are enjoying 2-D and 3-D with with excellent picture quality.
Our 3-D users have thoroughly enjoyed the 3-D experience and use Samsung’s 2-D to 3-D on the fly conversion to add more 3-D viewing.
We’re looking forward to Panasonic’s launch of the VT25 before doing much marketing on 3-D, but we are expecting brisk sales as these new high end HDTVs are a great choice for all 2-D and 3-D SD and HD content.

Fox News viewers aren’t used to the truth? Oh, you’re right, because they’ve been so numbed to the socialist myopathy of the MSM. Yes, the truth can be shocking when you face it. How will your distorted MSM look in 3D? Oh, wait, MSNBC, CBS, NBC & NPR only show the left signal so 3D will be impossible. Guess it is doomed.
Recently checked out 3d at the local Best Buy. Have seen several 3d movies with most recent Alice in Wonderland.
First 3d was a distraction in the Alice movie because it muted the colors and bright picture that could have added to the experience. Saw Avatar good 3d effects not enough to make me want it at home.
The 3d TVs I have seen on display are too small to have any 3d impact. The effect collapses because the screen is only 55 inches or less. For this to draw one in the screen must be big, colors not muted and must be bright. From what I have seen the technology is not there. Save your money and get a good 2d tv and Bluray.
DO NOT see a 3D movie in RealD 3D unless you are Sure they have swapped to a silver screen. I have compared systems and RealD theater have a habit of ripping off the customers. The onlly way it can look correct is to use silver, not white screen - similar to real IMAX screens. When they don’t the colors are severly off, and it is dim - and thus jerky. In short it Sucks compared to the other technologies.
As for Faux news…I’d argue what is real, but someone said it best in talking about man made global warming. If you don’t believe it, you have your head so far up your rear, you can’t hear.
Faux News watchers are drowned in emotions. They couldn’t decern a fact if it was as obvious as Obama can’t be both a communist and a socialist nor a Muslim and a radical Christian at the same time….but Faux viewers and the Tea Boneheads can’t figure that out, or any other facts - like the one where few people give a rats behind about them.
If Faux told them the jury was out that planes could fly, that it was all a conspirisy of liberal engineers….they’d believe it….and still get on the planes. (and we all know there ain’t many liberal engineers either).
Socialism…oh freekin please. Send back your SS check and then tell me how you are not a socialist also.
Perhaps you should realize that the conservative Republicans that have all the money and will be the early adopters simply because they can are the ones that watch Fox News.
Perhaps you’re one that thinks they have the money because they stole it from the poor people! Ridiculous…Capitalism is dying might be the 11th reason 3D could fail!!
One title…Goldman Sachs. One concept - indictment. Captialism is not dead, just needs to have the humans within the system restrained. This is not the first time we have been here, and not the first time we have recovered from it.
3D TV might be bought by rich, but they probably spend less time watching. I’ll bet that families and kids - due to the incredible clarity in the graphic cartoons, will eat it up. And they love things like funky glasses - theyll need special ones, like Sponge Bob and Mermaid etc.
Steveo, I’ll take your bait. What do you watch for the truth vice your “Faux” news? I am many years from SS and work for a living and have written off ever getting anything from that Ponzi scheme. Where was it determined it was supposed to be a retirement program? Nowhere. And I’m prepared to support my parents when it does go bankrupt, even if it means a significant impact. I’m not expecting you to pay for them. Look up the continuum on authoritarianism<>massive government—-socialism is one step short of communism—-they’re blood relatives. If you’re truly enlightened, you wouldn’t be afraid to go to a Tea Party and engage in a calm open minded discourse. We need you on the Republic’s side!
Okay, bait taken. I am not particularly expert but I am not easily taken by emotional hysteria. I have an engineering - think mathematical background, and I seem to be very good at pulling the ‘obvious’ out of the chaotic stuff the media throughs at us. But, key is listening to facts. I have spent lots of time listening to both sides and listened to the right enough that I though the war against Iraq was legit. Then the reality hit me, all the right was parroting the same thing. It felt three dimensional, felt like cross supported truths. But in the end, it was managed lies, by a a pack of whores who would say anything for audience share.
And I say that in particular not because I am smart, or they are stupid, but LONG, very LONG after it clearly has been proven the war was a fraud, and we discovered that the people involved were life long governmental grifters - Bushs, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and that they were utterly incompetent at everything, and lied at everything….their media dogs just went slavisly down the same path.
And it was hateful - argument mostly by insult.
So via XM and regular radio, I went left. Air America and similar, New York Times, Rachel Maddow, Oberman. LA Times is my local paper so I get a dose of all sides and I disucss with everyone I can.
Now I don’t know SS. I don’t give a rats behind if it was intented to be a retirement program and considering in LA the $1800 ?? I would get would allow me to live under a bridge, I hardly think of it as one - but if my company screws me on their retirement as MANY have gotten away with, I can rely on SS - as long as we have an economy, we will have SS. No economy and nothing will really matter anyway as things will be murderously bad.
So I can’t defend SS, but I absolutely believe it will be there because it is funded by the people. As long as we can keep this a government for the people we will work it out.
As for the Tea baggers, I am sure there are a few good people. But the pictures, the numbers, and the voice that is heard it is clearly white, rigid, republican and supremely rascist. After all, simply, where was it for the last 30 years of theivery and war crimes? No, it came out with a black president and tried to blame him from the first moment.
No, sorry dude, but the Tea movement is empty, a simple mob program brought to you by republican operatives, the party of No.
This JVC projector offers more onscreen pixels than most, and a THX mode.
DPI, Sunfire and SnapAV deliver high performance at a reasonable price.
Sayonara, set-top box? Or will it just take an energy-saving nap?
It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
The success of 3D is ultimately dependent on the quality of software produced by content creators.
SS3D has many variations and is much more complex than new HD video formats and lossy/lossless audio codecs as mentioned in this article. As James Cameron mentioned, “3D must be done right.” Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans should not even be mentioned in the same breath as Avatar, as the 3D effect was just on a whole different level.
Yes, in a perfect world, 3D would undoubtedly succeed, because the content would be created in a superb fashion. However, 3D imaging is quite complex, and whenever there are cost-benefit considerations, quality ultimately suffers. A movie which required 12 years to come full circle, including 5 years of production and post-production (Avatar), will naturally be on a different level than a film with 1 year and a half production schedule and a fraction of Avatar’s budget (AIW).
In short, if the content isn’t compelling enough, we may simply just have 3DTVs in our home with only 2D content being viewed on them.
