In addition to 1,000 live HD choices, Comcast plans to offer 3,000 high-def movies every month.
The king of all cable companies is about to rule the HD roost. Comcast just announced that they will deliver more than 1,000 high-def choices for 2008.
This HD lineup will include more than 1,000 live HD movies and TV shows—many of which will end up in the company’s On Demand offerings. Aside from live content, Comcast also plans to make 3,000 HD movies available each month via its On Demand service.
On Demand is the main component of the company’s Project Infinity, an initiative that will allow Comcast customers to truly watch TV on their own time. The project will put any TV show, movie or any other user-generated content (via Fancast.com) up for On Demand.
The On Demand service currently has more than 10,000 selections available each month. Project Infinity will take advantage of the company’s “existing fiber network and national IP backbone.”

I have compared the On Deman HD to upconverted DVD and they are so close, it would lead me to believe that these movies are not original HD formatted. In any case, It’s hard to find anything that isn’t already available through HBO, Blockbuster or other means that is cheaper than paying $3.99 for one-time use. And of course, the TV wasteland just gives us more inane content that is now easier on the eyes, but harder on the mind…
I actually think they are planning to offer 1,000 choices… live. Then some of that stuff will go to On Demand after it originally airs. They made the announcement a bit confusing, but they did say that they plan to offer 3,000 HD On Demand movies, etc., so I took that to be independent of the 1,000 choices. We shall see…
Man all they do is lie, lie, lie. When they actually deliver as many Live HD channels as either DTV then they can claim to be king. The idea of counting On Demand as a channel choice is a fib of biblical proportion.
This must be why my f***ing bill is going up by $12+ dollars next month….
Yeah!
This JVC projector offers more onscreen pixels than most, and a THX mode.
DPI, Sunfire and SnapAV deliver high performance at a reasonable price.
Sayonara, set-top box? Or will it just take an energy-saving nap?
It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
Yeah, Charter pulled the same crap in postcards about two months ago. It said, “currently offering 3x the HD choices as DirecTV”. What the hell is an HD choice anyway?
It’s all garbage. You don’t see the word “choices” anywhere on DirecTV’s website, everything says channels. Last time I checked, DirecTV offers 73 HD channels, and that doesn’t even include the 13 PPV channels, and 8 DNS.
So, apparently Comcast hired the HD fairy, because they’re going to have 1,000 HD CHOICES in the next 11 months, yet somehow they are only able to provide their customers with 30 HD channels (in Philly).
During the keynote, why did the chart comparing DirecTV to Comcast leave out DirecTV on Demand???
