There are many cases in which the consumer electronics industry can be accused of not collectively getting its act together to effectively promote a product or technology.
The marketing of 3D video technologies, however is not one of those cases.
Starting on Friday Sept. 10 and running through Sunday Sept. 12 the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is working with electronics dealers across the country and the television network ESPN to demonstrate 3D video to consumers.
Retailers taking part in this weekend event include Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry’s Home Electronics, Sam’s Club, Sears and many independently owned custom installation and specialty companies.
The sponsored event is called “National 3D Demo Days,” and with the event the CEA will be trying to expose more people to the technology, which to this point has been well received.
Current CEA research indicates that nearly half of those who have seen 3D video rate their experience as “excellent.” CEA research also finds that approximately 80 percent found their 3D viewing experience as positive.
During the course of the weekend promotion ESPN will be working with AT&T, Comcast and DirecTV to broadcast the Ohio State vs. Miami football game on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. EST, and it will also broadcast re-runs of the recently completed World Cup and Boise State-Virginia Tech football game, as well as some X-Games action.
In addition, DirecTV is airing coverage of the U.S. Open throughout the weekend from New York in conjunction with Panasonic on its n3D channel.
