MINNEAPOLIS—Canton has added two new systems to its popular ‘Movie’ family of small home theater speaker packages which offer exceptional sound quality for their size, and add new high gloss black or silver finishes. The new Movie 80 CX and Movie 120 MX systems join two current packages, the Movie 60 CX and Movie 150 QX.
Each of these systems combines four small satellite speakers with a matching horizontal center channel speaker and powerful active subwoofer for full 5.1-channel surround sound reproduction. Unlike many similarly-sized systems, which unnecessarily sacrifice performance for size, Canton’s Movie line was designed using the same computer-aided modeling and testing facilities used for its much more expensive speakers to match the precision Canton driver sets to each of the different cabinet designs. This allows each system to deliver remarkably powerful and detailed sound in a range of cabinet sizes that are small and attractive enough to suit any home or apartment.
The Movie systems use Canton’s signature diaphragm motion control circuits to prevent the erratic excursions that even small woofer drivers can experience when they are fed signals below their natural low-frequency limits. In the satellite speakers, passive high-pass filter circuits block such signals, significantly lowering harmonic distortion and improving driver precision. The powered subwoofers each include Canton’s acclaimed SC (Subwoofer Control) Technology, which employs active excursion control circuitry custom designed for each model to reduce harmonic distortion and improve frequency range, while maintaining precise stability and control.
The Canton satellite minispeakers can be placed on bookshelves, hung on a wall with optional wall mounts, or freely placed about the room on optional stands. The center channel speakers are acoustically matched to the satellites for precise dialogue reproduction and a seamless soundfield. Each package also features a powered subwoofer, which provides the powerful bass that drives the action and excitement of movie soundtracks.
Movie 80 CX
The Movie 80 CX features four identical high gloss black or silver finished mini-satellites with a face that measure just 3-1/2 inches square, and 4-inches deep. Unlike comparably sized mini-cubes, these are true two-way speakers with a 3-inch polypropylene woofer, and a coaxially mounted 1-inch aluminum tweeter mounted in a low-resonance molded enclosure for remarkably low resonance and baffle distortion characteristics. The center-channel uses the same driver complement, but with a pair of woofers horizontally flanking the tweeter for clear, detailed reproduction of dialogue.
The Movie 80 CX’s 100-Watt powered subwoofer uses a 6-inch long-throw cellulose/graphite driver in a bandpass enclosure, for taut and accurate bass reproduction down to 38 Hz. Like all the Movie subwoofers, it features variable crossover and output controls, as well as switchable phase adjustment. The Movie 80 CX is currently available at a retail price of $699.
Movie 120 MX
The Movie 120 MX’s satellites are similar to those in the Movie 60 CX and 80 CX, but with the drivers in a more conventional vertical arrangement rather than a coaxial one. This gives them a height of 4-1/2-inches, and an increased cabinet volume for improved linearity and output in the midrange and mid-bass frequency ranges. The Movie 120 MX also benefits from a larger subwoofer, including an 8-inch cellulose/graphite driver, capable of deep bass reproduction down to 33 Hz. The Movie 120 MX is available in high gloss finishes of black and silver at a retail price of $899.
Movie 60 CX
The Canton Movie 60 CX features the same specifications and components as the Movie 80 CX, but with satin black or silver finishes. The Movie 60 CX also has a retail price of $699.
Movie 150 QX
The Movie 150 QX satellites feature 4-inch woofers and a 1-inch Aluminum tweeter, and are 4-1/4-inches wide, 6-1/4-inches tall, and 5-inches deep. It features the largest and most powerful subwoofer in the Movie series, with an 8-inch cone and a 120-Watt amplifier in a bandpass enclosure, delivering clear bass response down to 30 Hz. The Movie 150 QX is currently available in black and silver finishes at a suggested retail price of $1,099.
