The steps to mount a flat panel TV on your wall normally involve quite a bit of work, even for the seasoned do-it-yourselfer.
OmniMount hopes to change that, with its new self-named omnimount.
The company says installation takes only three steps: attach the panel spacers to the TV’s back, mount the wall brackets and hang the flat panel.
Can it really be that easy?
“At OmniMount, we pride ourselves on pushing the envelope to constantly offer our customers the most innovative mount solutions available. The omnimount is testament to that. This new product breaks boundaries and delivers innovation, versatility, ease of installation and affordability to consumers across all channels,” says Alex Robertson, senior vice president of sales and marketing.
The mount, which supports flat panels between 12 and 42 inches large and up to 40 pounds, is available for $39.95.

This all looks easy to do. But what about the wiring.

So, I don’t have a really large flat panel TV, but I looked at the back of a 20” unit yesterday and I didn’t see any pre-drilled/tapped locations on the back of that LCD to mount the Panel Spacers. Do you have to drill into the back of your flat-panel to mount these panel spacers? And how to you get the spacers to align with the wall brackets you are hanging on the wall? I don’t know about you, but it’s nearly impossible to align these things without some kind of template! And, the back of the 20” flat -panel I looked at yesterday was curved…any template needs to be flexible to match the curvature of the flat panel screen. But then the panel spacers would not be perpendicular to the wall any longer!
And did she use standard plastic drywall spreading wall anchors to mount a thousand dollar TV? I certainly would *NOT* trust anything less than a moly-bolt to hold something that expensive…I’ve seen drywall panels pull away from the wall taking shelving or whatever is mounted on the wall down with it! Ths review is just a bunch of fluff….it needs a more indepth review!
