What do you get when you mix Pocahontas, Smurfs, “The Matrix”, and “Jaws 3”?  “Avatar” in 3D.

But when will we get “Avatar” on Blu-ray 3D? Sometime in November 2010, according to James Cameron.

“It’s all right on schedule. We’ll do the Blu-ray and the standard-def DVD April 22nd, that’s our plan as of right now, and that’ll be pretty much bare bones,” Cameron says in an interview with Wall Street Journal. “And then we’ll do a value-added DVD and a 3D Blu-ray in I think November sometime.”

A spokesperson from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment denied Cameron’s statement, saying “3-D is in the conceptual stage and “Avatar” will not be out on 3-D Blu-ray in November.”

Cameron also talked about an “Avatar” sequel, saying they plan to do it “cheaper and faster.”

With 3D TVs and Blu-ray players on the immediate horizon, will “Avatar” on Blu-ray 3D be the first killer piece of content on this emerging medium?

The story is so ordinary(not to say bad…)  that 1 viewing is plenty enough for us.

I imagine the release of Avatar will almost single-handedly drive the sales of 3D Blu-ray players. If it wasn’t for this film, I can’t think of another piece of content that would motivate me to buy one this year.
