FINALIST: Best Family/Media Room

When it comes to northern California living, nature and beauty often collide. The challenge for designers and architects is bringing those inside the house—something even custom electronics professionals need to keep in mind, too.

That’s what San Rafael-based Rolling Thunder Group deals with all the time. When it came to the area’s Fischer-Devereaux residence, the company had a helping hand from one of the owners.

“Initially we were brought in to look at a non-functioning media room,” says Rolling Thunder Group’s Jeff Symonds. “Eventually we completely reconstructed this room including construction of the TV wall and the Venetian Plaster finish.”

Rolling Thunder took care in paying great attention to detail on the A/V design and installation, and received oversight from the homeowner wife Cynthia Devereaux, who worked on the interior design that helps the place truly stand out.

Thanks to such design and detail, the 65-inch Panasonic plasma, mounted on a Peerless articulating mount, doesn’t overwhelm the room but looks like a natural addition next to the fireplace.

Custom cabinetry houses the equipment rack, while a full-fledged 7.1 surround system featuring Artison surround speakers, subwoofer and LCR. Control is provided by an RTI T2-C RF System. Power and performance, and naturally beautiful as the NoCal surroundings.
