Ever dream of downloading a full-length HD movie in about ten minutes? That dream will soon be reality for Cablevision subscribers in New York.

Starting May 11, Cablevision will offer “Optimum Online Ultra,” their new high-speed Internet service for $99.95 per month. You’ll get downloads speeds up to 101 megabits-per-second and upload speeds of 15 megabits-per-second. At these levels, you can download 750 digital photos or 150 songs in 60 seconds.

The service also includes:

  • Up to 15 e-mail addresses, with 1 gigabyte of storage per address capable of sending large attachments in excess of 20 megabytes
  • Web hosting capabilities, with tools for creating your own web site with 12 gigabytes of hosted space
  • Advanced configurations including DDNS, Port 25 and Port 80

Before you balk at the price, consider that Comcast charges up to $139 per month for its 50Mbps Wideband service in select markets.

Cablevision is also doubling the speed of its Wi-Fi service (at no extra charge) to 3Mbps.

Wow, this is super fast…very tempting to pay $100/mo. for this type of service. if it works flawlessly with no hiccups…I would bite the bullet and get the service. Only time will tell.

Shaw Cable (Rogers) in Canada announced an internet feed this fast as ‘coming soon’ about 6 months ago… it’s still not available to the public.  A friend of mine that works for the cable company let me see it working at their head office, it was sick!

So yes it’s real, but we’ll see when it’s actually available to the public.

Is this for real? It sounds ... ridiculously fast.
