In an effort to reach mainstream America, Nexia Home Intelligence, a brand of Ingersoll Rand, announced that its wireless home automation platform may soon be available through dealers of Trane heating and cooling contractors and Budget Blinds. Additionally, Amazon and national builders including Pulty Homes, Lennar and Meritage Home will offer starter packages, which according to Matt McGovren, leader, channel marketing for Ingersoll Rand, can start as low as a couple hundred dollars. Another novel approach by Nexia is the absence of a monthly service contract for remote monitoring and control of products on its wireless Z-wave network. Customers can use the service for $8.99 a month and drop it at any time, according to McGovren.

New products added to the Nexia network, which were announced at CES, include the Schlage Touchscreen Deadbolt, Trane Energy Management System, and Trane ComfortLink II thermostat with zoning capabilities.

The Nexia network, which can include any of more than 200 Z-wave-enabled products currently available from a variety of manufacturers, centers around the company’s Bridge product. The $99 device connects to a home’s router, allowing you to control any Nexia-compatible Z-wave product via a web-enabled computer or mobile device inside or outside the home. Products can be added to the network at any time, allowing homeowners to start with a basic system and grow it as their needs and budget allows, says McGovren.

In addition to allowing users to monitor and control products remotely, Nexia’s Remote Service Plan supports cloud-based diagnostics of the Nexia network. Should the network experience problems, Nexia customer service reps can identify the problematic device and offers customer assistance via the cloud.
