Boxee Unboxes Movie Library, 4 Content Partners
Media streamer Boxee has four launch partners to deliver thousands of free films for its users.

Some more good news for fans of content aggregator and streamer Boxee. The company announced it has added a “Movie Library” to its menu, and is launching it with the help of four content partners.

Especially if you’re sick and tired of Hollywood’s big-budget lack of creativity, it could be worth your while to give some of these independent flicks a try. They’ll be offered from EZTakes, Indie Movies Online, MUBI and Openfilm—most are free, ad-supported.

Maybe the most intriguing source here is OpenFilm, which features an online community of filmmakers and film enthusiasts that find and distribute movies globally. Besides its online social network aspect, it includes a big movie database and an advisory board with names like James Caan and Robert Duvall.

Boxee already offers a TV Library, and the four launch partners are just the beginning for the Movie Library content, the company says.

As Boxee’s Andrew Kippen notes: “While it’s still a bit rough around the edges (you’ll notice some movie artwork is missing and movie counts max at 200 even though you can search thousands), we wanted to make it available sooner rather than later.”
