Boxee Adds RSS Feeds from Hulu, YouTube and Others
An RSS reader optimized for video somewhat enables Hulu streaming back on the popular Boxee application, along with videos from Google and other websites.

Hulu’s public RSS feeds feature plenty of ‘recently added videos’

We dig Boxee. We dig Hulu. But Hulu’s content providers didn’t dig Boxee (or other third-party apps for that matter), so the streaming video site recently asked for its material to be pulled from a bunch of places, Boxee perhaps the most notable.

Well Boxee has come out with an updated version of its alpha product, and it looks like you may be able to tap into some Hulu content after all—and a bunch more videos with ease. It’s added an RSS feed support that’s optimized for video.

A quick scan of Hulu’s RSS feed, for example, finds all of your favorite NBC shows from Thursday night readily available; plenty of other video-intensive websites offer feeds that you’ll be able to tap into as well.

We don’t know if Hulu will be able to put the kybosh on an overall RSS reader application, which we’re hoping is beyond they’re boundaries, but we’ll also be interested to see perhaps a more polished version that Boxee says will be released March 24.

The company’s also added some other goodies, with this update. From the blog:

  • An App Box - this is a first take at an application “store” that makes it easy for users to install new apps and plugins. There is also native support for 3rd party repositories, so you don’t have to rely on boxee as a gatekeeper for what goes into the official boxee app store. for example, you can add dir.boxeehq.com as a repository to get access to all the boxeehq.com apps.
  • Auto update - long time in the making and really bad form on our part for not having it from the beginning. but better later than never. no need to check on Twitter or our blog to know that there is a new version. now you’ll be prompted to update boxee whenever there is a new release ready.

We’d have to agree with Engadget HD that after the disappointment of the recent Hulu news, we dig today’s proceedings.
