The folks at Bose really know how to shrink a product while maintaining big sound. Their mantra that sound should be heard and not seen is certainly a key style point with the company’s Computer MusicMonitor speakers unveiled this week.

The aluminum beauties are meant to compliment desktop and laptop applications that are increasingly being used not just in home office spaces, but in other rooms around the house or apartment these days. They looked great flanking the Mac computer setup during Tuesday’s demonstration at Bose—though the company did not reveal any plans to have the MusicMonitor bundled with any computer manufacturer products.

Dual internal opposing passive radiators and neodymium transducers help serve up the audio (Bose says the speakers are meant primarily for your computer’s music files) and keep the form factor small. No subwoofer’s necessary either—the MusicMonitors offer generous low end sound.

My demo included a bass composition from Bach and Henry Mancini’s Drummer’s Delight among the material that showcased the clarity, thump and dynamic range of the MusicMonitors. Price is $399 and availability begins Oct. 4. A credit-card size remote is included; a carrying case for portability will be available for $59.
