Last year wasn’t exactly must-see as far as 3D was concerned. The technology was there, but when it came to content, we constantly felt like we were scrounging for the few morsels that were available.
The New Year has a slew of new possibilities for 3D. We’ve seen a lot of exciting announcements so far. VUDU recently announced plans to start streaming in 3D, HBO has 3D video on demand, and ESPN will continue to crank out certain 3D-worthy events.
We’re also seeing the opportunity for more Blu-ray 3D in the home. Of course, Panasonic still has a tight hold on Avatar, and won’t be letting up until sometime in 2012. We don’t blame them. In the meantime, however, this should be a banner year for the Blu-ray 3D format. Disney will deliver 15 of its current and classic movies on Blu-ray 3D—and they aren’t the only ones planning widespread releases. Here are eight films we can’t wait to enjoy in the eye-popping comfort of our own home.
