We’re always hearing about different ways to access Netflix’s streaming video, but Blockbuster wants people to remember that it has a pretty robust video on demand service, too.
And that means continuing to follow Netflix’s lead—like Blockbuster’s latest announced move of partnering with TiVo so owners of that ubiquitous DVR box can use it for Blockbuster OnDemand rentals and purchases.
This sets up TiVo as pretty much the go-to box if you’re a big video renter and want instant access to your movies, with TiVo now able to pull your Netflix Watch Instantly content, Amazon Video on Demand and now Blockbuster.
Blockbuster OnDemand service will be incorporated into TiVo Series2, Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL DVRs, and TiVo boxes will be sold at Blockbuster stores as well as online from the video rental giant.
You can head over to TiVo’s website for more info about the Blockbuster/TiVo service and to sign up on the mailing list.
The joint service is expected to start in the second half of 2009, the companies said, so we’re guessing you’ll start seeing TiVo boxes pop up in Blockbuster stores at that time too. With all of those movie choices, plus the ability to order Domino’s right from the TiVo box as well, will you ever leave your home?
