Best Buy is giving out $50 gift cards to HD DVD purchasers

Best Buy is doing its part to stimulate the economy. At least, if you bought an HD DVD player from the company.

The retail giant has “exciting news” for you in that case-- it is sending out $50 gift cards to those who purchased HD DVD players or HD DVD attachments from Best Buy before February 23, 2008. The company says most people will automatically receive the gift cards in the mail over the next few weeks.

If you haven’t received anything by May 1, have your receipt or credit card statement handy and call 1-888-BEST-BUY. The offer will be open until Dec. 31, 2008.

Starting this Friday, March 21, if you don’t want to keep your HD DVD player you can get an estimate and trade it in at BestBuyTradeIn.com, which will net you another gift card. Hey, you’ll be well on your way to a Blu-ray player when you add the two gift cards together.

Of course, if you want to keep your HD DVD player, you will now have $50 to play with at Best Buy--that might be able to get you seven or eight HD DVD movies pretty soon.

$50 is better than nothing!
I won’t be trading my HD DVD players for a BD player though.

Peter B,

Consider yourself lucky that they are giving you anything at all.  That’s the price you pay for having to be the first to have the technology.

$50 bucks plus the opportunity to unload it.  Someone out there may want a second for a backup.

Circuit City deal here

This is great!! I bought mine early last year from bestbuy for regular price 499.00, with the 50.00 giftcard sounds good but they could have done better like for example for those who bought their hd dvd players from 499.00 - 299.00 should 100.00 giftcard and for those who bought between 299.00 - below should get 50.00 gift certificate this is a better idea if they really want to compensate their customers. Or they could go 50.00 gift for 499 - 299 and 25.00 bucks for 299.00 and below.  A lot bought their hd dvd players 99.00 so this will really help those who got it for that price. But how about me who bought it first the hd dvd when it first came out for 499.00.

The Circuit City deal is only better if you bought your HD-DVD player within that 90-day period.  If you bought it before that, then Best Buy’s offer is infinitely better. ;)
