We’re used to seeing Belkin crank out a variety of accessories. However, they are making some serious noise with the new Thunderstorm.
The newly announced Belkin Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater is a full-range speaker dock designed for use with the iPad. Using the power of Audifi and front-facing speakers, the Thunderstorm promises to deliver a cinematic experience from Apple’s popular tablet.
Other features include ported speakers, integrated air channels and the free compatible Thunderstorm app. The latter promises extended control, as well as customized soundscapes for music, movies and games.
The Thunderstorm was made to fit flush around the iPad and connect through the device’s dock connector. There will be versions available for the 30-pin iPad and models with the new Lightning connector. Other features include pass-through access for the iPad’s rear camera, a headset jack, a microphone, and much more.
“The iPad is known for its brilliant, high-definition display that enhances the video quality of your favorite movies, shows and video games, but the audio quality sometimes doesn’t match the visual experience,” said Nate Kraft, Belkin’s director of product management. “With the Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater we are looking to provide the immersive, powerful audio experience missing in the iPad, so you can listen to your content the way it was meant to be heard.”
Belkin has the Thunderstorm on display all week at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show. Compatible with the iPad 2 and third-gen iPad, the 30-pin Thunderstorm will start selling soon, with an MSRP of $199.99. Fourth-gen iPad users will be able to get the Lightning version sometime this spring.
