Can you find the speakers and screen in this stealthy family room?

This family room in a house previously owned by comedienne Carol Burnett is much more than a comfy, sunny room with a nice home entertainment system.

The room originally was designed to view a TV in an old-fashioned cabinet that the equipment rack currently occupies. The owner wanted a projection system and the screen to run parallel with the fireplace. To make the speakers unobtrusive, audio/video contractor Sound Decision came up with the idea of three housings containing the Phase Tech speakers. These speakers use a D’Appolito design (woofer-tweeter-woofer) allowing for horizontal or vertical placement. The exact angle of the boxes was laser-aligned, creating a smooth alignment with the listener’s seating position. A service-friendly housing was also constructed for the Stewart screen.

The projector housing was also designed by Sound Decision. It features a Display Devices stealth lift, originally designed for in-ceiling applications. The lift sits in the beams, with the projector fitting flush to the beams. Sound Decision designed the overall wood exterior that blends in with the beams. The cabinet maker then fabricated all these to the designer’s specs.

Control of the motorized screen, projector and audio/video systems is via a Crestron TPMC-10. All graphics were custom-created in Photoshop by Scott Rousso, who designed a unique touchscreen experience. Careful thought in the design made use of the Crestron control much simpler.
