Oh, the joys of adding electronics to a newly remodeled basement.

This one’s walls might look sparse, but it’s heavy on entertainment—high-tech and low-tech, like playing poker, ping-pong or table hockey.

For starters, there are separate flat-panels and two JBL surround-sound systems—one for high-definition movies and broadcasts and one dedicated just for video games. Custom electronics pro Advanced Media Systems also provided additional screens in the bar area, guest bedroom and bath as well as two in the gym.

“Music from any one of multiple sources can be played in any zone independent of the surround systems using a NuVo Grand Concerto distribution system, giving either soft background music for entertaining or high-energy motivation for a good workout in the gym,” says Advanced Media Systems’ Gregory Mizerek.

For ease of use and simiplification, the NuVo music, Lutron RadioRA lighting, HVAC and security are all integrated using an HAI Omni Pro II controller with Omni-touch in-wall LCD touchscreens.

All the systems, including the surround systems are also controlled using either of two Philips Pronto TSU-9600 handheld remotes. “For the homeowners, this means that with the touch of a button, the lights dim, HVAC adjusts to a comfortable temperature, and the latest in Blu-ray movies begins to play,” adds Mizerek.

Networked security cameras are also distributed to both flat screens in the space as well as in the rest of the house, giving the homeowner the ability to keep an eye on younger family members and their guests. Keeping one eye on the screen and one eye on the poker table is sure to keep his card-playing buddies guessing on bluffs, too.
