Bang and Olufsen says their big fancy 3D plasma TV is finally here, in the US. The TV I’m talking about is the BeoVision 12, a 65-inch 3D plasma TV that goes for $11,350.
Coming from Bang and Olufsen, this is more than just an expensive TV. It’s stylishly framed in aluminum. The integrated speaker—designed to be used as a center channel—includes a drilled hole design B&O calles “organic” and is engineered so the sound appears to be coming from the center of the screen rather than from below it, for a more realistic audio experience (like putting speakers behind an acoustically transparent projection screen). It contains 4 x 80 watt ICEpower amplifiers for the midrange and 1 x 40 watts for the treble.
The speaker design matches the company’s BeoLab 5 speakers, making them a good fit for a total surround sound setup. (I saw and heard this setup at CES in January, and indeed it is a sweet system).
The TV is based on a NeoPDP panel which features updated phosphors with a short retention time which means they power up and down quickly for a more precise image. An automatic color management system compensates for the effects of aging phosphors. There’s even a camera mounted on a robotic arm for self-calibration.
Another unique thing about this TV is that the mounting bracket is partially integrated into the TV itself so it adds very little to the total depth of the mounted unit. This also means you’re restricted to the B&O mount, but it does come with it. In fact, this TV does not come with a tabletop stand. Wall mounting is the only options allowed.
Like all other B & O products, you can only get this through a B & O showroom dealer. You can purchase the TV by itself or get it packaged with BeoSystem 3 processor for $19,749.
