Autonomic is upgrading its MMS-2 music player product. The new MMS-2A will have new features over its predecessor, but for the same price.

The cloud-based media server can store, sync, schedule and stream audio, as well as play various online music services. It can even send high-resolution audio through three independent streams to a multiroom system—with up to 96 zones.

One of the new perks is that the new player has a 128GB solid state drive for increased storage capacity. Other features include two onboard AirPlay receivers, quiet fanless cooling and a 1RU rack-mountable chassis (rack ears and traditional feet included). It also has Autonomic’s own TuneBridge technology for seeking out new music.

The MMS-2A supports streaming services including Pandora, Rhapsody, TuneIn, SiriusXM, Slacker, Napster and Spotify. Just know that a subscription and/or fees may be required.

The MMS-2A can be used with home systems from Crestron, RTI, Control4, Elan, AMX, and more. There are plenty of other control options as well, including the Mirage Media Controller app for iOS and Android devices, Airplay control and the Mirage Web Interface.

“The MMS-2A delivers faster browsing and processing thanks to the most advanced drive technology, while providing silent operation from a slender new form factor—all at the same $1,995 MSRP as its predecessor,” explained Autonomic CEO Michael de Nigris. “Our mission with this new model was to deliver the highest value-to-performance ratio of any music player on the market. The MMS-2A and its big brother the MMS-5A are really the ultimate whole-house high-resolution audio solutions available anywhere.”

Autonomic is currently accepting pre-orders for the MMS-2A, with plans to ship on June 2, 2014. Besides the basic MMS-2A, the company is also offering 16-zone packages starting at $499 per zone (or $7,995), with the 4-zone, 2-stream package going for $3,995.
