It doesn’t matter what provider you use for wireless phone service, you’ll still be able to tap into AT&T’s Digital Life services via your smartphone, PC, tablet or another other web-enabled device. The service, which will be “competitively priced,” according to AT&T, is designed to work with a yet unnamed security system for access to surveillance cameras, window and door sensors, electronic door locks, thermostats, appliances and other devices. These devices can be monitored and controlled remotely or while at home from a mobile device.
A suite of products will be included in a trail service, set to roll out this summer to households in Dallas and Atlanta. After that, the system and service will be available through AT&T retailers and via att.com. Unlike other providers, AT&T offers professional installation, and the system is monitored 24/7 by an AT&T owned and operated monitoring center. Also, AT&T’s user interface will allow customers to link devices and create their own control scenarios. The home page can be customized to how only the most important controls.
Devices in the home will communicate via Wi-Fi, Z-Wave and wired broadband connections, making it a solution ideal for new and existing homes. Devices can be added onto the platform to expand control options at any time.
