With so much video available online these days (not to mention other video downloads you may have rented or purchased or somewhat illegally obtained) more people are looking for ways to view it on a big screen sitting comfortably on their couches rather than hunched over a computer monitor.

Depending on where your PC is situated, or better yet if you have a laptop or netbook, Atlona may have the answer for you. The company’s AT-HDVieW provides a single-cable-to-your-TV solution in a compact, plug-and-play device for your large-screen viewing pleasure.

The HDVieW is powered by USB, so you don’t have to worry about finding an extra electrical outlet, and it plugs into the computer via VGA. The little 4.4 x 2.5-inch device then converts and scales input resolutions ranging from 640 x 480 to 1920 x 1200 and sends them to your TV through an HDMI output. The converter automatically senses the native resolution of the connected display and adjusts to it, the company says, and scales up to 1080p so you’ve got full HD.

It also incorporates HDMI’s ability to pack both video and audio signals into one cable so you can pipe in the PC audio through the display as well. A 3.5mm input connects to your computer, and the converter embeds the audio signal into the HDMI along with the scaled video. Atlona even gives you a 6-foot HDMI cable included with the $119 product.

The input cables themselves on the HDVieW are a foot, so there’s a little flexibility there as you finagle your PC to TV viewing setup.

One note from Atlona - the output signal is 60Hz and designed to work only in the U.S. and Canada, so apologies to other international viewers as you’ll have to look elsewhere for such solutions.
