These homeowners and their friends don’t head out to a bar when they want to go have fun—they head downstairs. This family bar and game room is a fantastic place to kick back and have a good time, especially if you want to play cards, billiards or watch TV.

Atlanta-area custom electronics pros Digital Interiors integrated the technology, which includes whole-home Crestron control and A/V distribution into this 2008 Atlanta Magazine Dream Home (video link), creating the bar and game room area just outside the home theater (yup, there’s a dedicated theater room too) on the lower level.

The Fun Room features five Samsung flat-panel HDTV screens throughout this room, including one deftly flush-mounted into a stone fireplace.

“Since the homeowners did not want to obstruct the outdoor pool and golf course views, Digital Interiors designed Fun Family Bar and Game room area so that the TV screens can be viewed from anywhere in the room,” says Digital Interiors’ Alison Smith.

Digital Interiors provided pre-programmed scenes that can set the temperature, audio and video, security, lighting, even control the pool waterfall with the touch of one button.

“So you can have game night ready to go, one button gets you lights, action, movies—but you still have to make your own popcorn,” Smith says.

Other features of the Fun Room include:

  • Pool table
  • Card tables
  • Complete A/V integration system with Crestron Controls
  • Cable, DVD, DVR, Media Server with Kaleidescape servers that can hold up to 450 DVDs or 5,000 CDs
  • Controls for lighting, climate and security

The homeowners can watch their favorite sports, programs and movies on any of the screens throughout the room, tapping into high-def cable programming or the extensive options on the Kaleidescape server. Ideal for entertaining, the custom sports bar also includes swivel seats, which rotate to view the rest of the room.

Family and friends can shoot billiards by the bar, play a game of poker in front of the fireplace, or deal blackjack in front of the sofa. “With doors that open to the patio, the party can spill out onto the covered outdoor living room and out to the veranda and pool areas,” Smith says. Now that’s what we call fun.
