Asoka is getting small with its home networking lineup. Don’t worry; the company isn’t eliminating any of its products. Instead, they are adding the PlugLink HD AV and PlugLink-ETH-500, which they claim to be the industry’s smallest, lowest power powerline communications (PLC) home networking adapters available.
Because these products use PLC technology, homeowners don’t need any type of special wiring in the home. Instead, you just plug them into any ordinary wall outlet. It’s almost as simple as a wireless network, except you can have reception wherever you want it—even in those spots where your wireless network doesn’t reach.
Measuring 76-by-54-by-27mm and drawing 1.3 watts of power, the PlugLink HD AV adapter boasts a 200 Mbps network and has one Ethernet port. Designed for IPTV, on-demand video, online gaming, multimedia downloading, VOIP telephony or Internet streaming, the PlugLink HD AV adapter is available now for $60.
The PlugLink-ETH-500 is 76-by-54-by-27mm and draws 2.2 watts of power. That promises 500 Mbps with two Ethernet ports, so you can connect a game console, an HDTV or any other networked AV essentials. The PlugLink-ETH-500 is also out now, for $75.
“These new PlugLink adapters give customers a convenient, easy-to-use home networking solution that is truly plug and play and up in running in minutes,” said Danny Castellano, Asoka’s vice president of marketing. “The smaller form factor has allowed us to reduce the cost of the device as well as the power consumption and we¹re excited to share this new design with our customers.”
Both PlugLink adapters have 128-bit AES encryption and are certified by UL, FCC, CE, RoHS, and CoC. All Asoka devices also support industry standards, such as IEEE 1901, IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3x IEEE 802.3u and HomePlug AV.
