Artcoustic Superstar Plays Your Portable Music
Artcoustic's Superstar is an all-in-one music center that includes an amplifier to blare your iPod or other portable digital music.
December 01, 2008 | by Arlen Schweiger

Integrated sound systems for your iPod (or, gasp, other portable music players) are everywhere these days. But when it comes to Danish speaker manufacturer Artcoustic, the aesthetics are going to be a little different than your average system.

The result for Artcoustic is its Superstar all-in-one music center, a single stereo speaker that will handle your digital sources like iPod and iPhone, as well as Sonos, Squeeze Box, Bose, Bang and Olufsen and others.

Like most of the Artcoustic offerings, the Superstar is meant to hang on your wall—and hang like artwork, with a huge portfolio of available graphics and the ability to customize the speaker’s screen with your own digital image.

But the Superstar also includes a built-in 2 x 150-watt stereo amplifier that plugs into any AC outlet. That way you can power up the speaker and use the included detachable shelf to hold your portable player. Pop your device into the amp’s input and you’re good to go.

The PA-260 amp also has DSP bass equalization settings, auto-on/auto-off signal sensing, stereo or mono operation, and a mini USB port.

For the high frequencies, the Superstar includes Artcoustic’s 160-degree ultra-wide-axis Target lens technology for its twin tweeters that combines with the company’s X2 series subwoofer technology for big, detailed sound.

The compact system (25.6 x 19.7 x 5.1 inches) is available in the U.S. through distributor StJohn Group, with an SRP of $4,150.
