This homeowner wanted an authentic looking theater with lots of ornate woodwork and a “real theater feel” for watching sporting events and movies in style.

Custom electronics professional Home Systems teamed up with builder Elie Contracting and planned a room that offered isolation from the rest of the home and also had perimeter walls with dimensions that were satisfactory for the theater layout.

Other advantages were cement foundation walls and multiple layers of Sheetrock and MDF woodwork, along with wall coverings to limit sound transmission through the home, according to Home Systems’ Ron Roslasky.

The builder took care of the woodworking, while Home Systems designed the room floorplan, theater wall, and general seating layout was designed by Home Systems, and the architectural woodwork was accomplished by the builder.

Elan LCR speakers and Sunfire powered subwoofer were positioned in a stage build out area below the screen with acoustic wrapped panels concealing them. The side- and rear-channel speakers were flush-mounted into the walls and concealed within the boundaries of raised wood trim.

An InFocus IN-78 projector with a 45x80-inch (16:9) screen, along with Denon AVR-3807 receiver, Denon DVD, VCR, Game input, and HD cable provide the primary A/V punch. A Universal Remote Control MX-950 with MRF-350 RF base operates the gear, as the equipment lies within a rack located in a closet in the entry lounge area—requiring operation of the equipment from behind closed doors.

The system remote also controls four zones of the new Universal Remote/Lutron branded RF dimmers designed to work with the MX series remote controls.
