With Apple and Microsoft preoccupied with the whole “less filling, tastes great” debate, now is the perfect opportunity for someone to sneak in under the radar—and that sneak is Archos.
Chances are, you’ve never heard of Archos (or maybe you have), but I can tell you that they are one of the true kings of the portable playground. Their latest creation is the Archos 604-WiFi.
That’s right kids: Microsoft was so busy being secretive and fine-tuning the Zune, that Archos took the glory out from under their noses.
The unit includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen and 802.11g connectivity. It’s also easy to add to your home network, so when you aren’t accessing the Web and your email on the go, you can use the device to stream PC or Mac content to your TV.
Other tasty tidbits include a 30GB hard drive and a nifty accessory that turns that portable into a digital video recorder. Oh, I think I am in love.
The absolute best thing about the 604-WiFi: You don’t have to wait for it; it’s available now.

This JVC projector offers more onscreen pixels than most, and a THX mode.
DPI, Sunfire and SnapAV deliver high performance at a reasonable price.
Sayonara, set-top box? Or will it just take an energy-saving nap?
It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
