Apple TV keeps chugging along. They just added a few new tweaks to keep them in the game, or perhaps entice you to add the set-top to your “gimme” list for Santa.

TUAW says that Apple just released software update 2.3 for its users. The sad part is that if you have any non-Apple TV software running on the box, you can say goodbye to those. The site also says that if you use the USB boxee hack, you might want to wait. However, there are plenty of reasons why you might want to check it out. New features include:

  • AirTunes Streaming for Apple TV: Allows users to use AirTunes to stream music to Airport Express speakers or other Apple TVs in the house.
  • Playlists: All of your iTunes playlists can now be seen on Apple TV.
  • Music Volume Control: That’s pretty self-explanatory.
  • Third-party Remote Controls: Apple TV can learn other remotes, meaning you can use your favorite in addition to the Apple Remote.

The option to add other remotes is what really perked our ears up. However, we’re wondering if any of these updates are worth losing any existing non-Apple apps. Still, new stuff is usually good stuff.

Apple TV Users: Are you clamoring for any of these updates? Sound off in the comments section below.
