App Alert: Twonky Beam Browser Video Streaming
The Twonky Beam Browser allows users to browse web video and beam selections straight to the TV.

Super Bowl commercials are still garnering a bit of buzz. Did you miss any of the good ones (Bueller?). Instead of watching them on the teeny screens of your laptop and/or smartphone, you can use the Twonky Beam Browser to beam the best ones to that big screen.

It sounds a little like a tongue twister, but actually the Twonky Beam Browser is a free app that allows users to wirelessly stream web video from any smartphone or tablet to a connected TV in the home. No cables or special TV apps are needed.

It’s important to note that the Twonky Beam Browser doesn’t work with every device under the sun. In other words, if you have a web-enabled HDTV or even a DLNA-enabled Blu-ray player, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Twonky will be compatible. We do know, however, that the Twonky Beam Browser works with Apple TV and Western Digital’s WD TV Live. For best results, you’d be wise to check the Twonky Beam Browser website to make sure your devices are compatible, before you start tearing your hair out.

If you have one of the aforementioned devices, download the free Twonky Beam Browser app and start surfing. At launch, Twonky Beam Browser offers up the option to search through YouTube, Vimeo, Fox News, IMDb, and more. Once you find a video worth sharing with an audience (or at least a larger screen), click the “Beam” icon. It will then magically transport to the TV, assuming your device (Apple TV, etc.) is on.

While no full movies are available yet and the quality is limited to its source, Twonky Beam Browser is a neat (and free) option to get some of that spontaneous content to a larger audience.
