When it comes to home networking issues, some people need a little magic (and perhaps a prayer or two). Instead of searching for a lamp to rub, Netgear Genie can troubleshoot home networking equipment and even provide access to some perks that you probably don’t even know about.
Designed to work with most Netgear WiFi routers, Netgear Genie allows users to monitor, manage and control a home network through an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or almost any Android device.
Some of the features available through the Netgear Genie dashboard include Live Parental Controls, Guest Access and a Broadband Usage Meter. There’s also a map to provide a graphical picture of your entire home network, which makes it easy to identify and block any unwanted devices. Freeloading neighbors, perhaps?
Another nifty feature is MyMedia. This allows app users to find photos, video or music files anywhere on the network and play them through a connected media player. For example, you can easily stream those family vacation photos to a DLNA-enabled HDTV. If nothing big is available, the app also allows users to stream that digital content directly to your smartphone or tablet.
Netgear Genie is available now, for iOS and Android devices, as well as Mac and PC use. There’s also an HD version specifically designed for the iPad. Check out a little demo on the Netgear Genie in the video below.
