We’re used to seeing HAI (Home Automation Inc., if you want to get all old-school) control systems and other automated equipment. Now, they are branching out with equipment that you are probably very familiar with: the iPhone.
The company just announced the HTX2 app, which actually works with the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod touch. Of course, it doesn’t work alone, so you’re going to have to combine it with with HAI’s Home Theater Extender 2. From there, you can use the app for all of your audio and video control needs.
What sets the app apart, however, is the customization. HAI has templates for almost anything, including TVs, Blu-ray and DVD players, AV receivers, satellite and cable boxes, tuners, and much more.
HAI says that the HTX2 hardware also includes the company’s HTX2 Mobile Designer software, which allows for the creation and/or customization of GUI (Graphical User Interface) “remote control” pages that can be used with your iOS device of choice. Of course, that’s something you’ll need to discuss with your dealer/installer.
Once the system is set up, you can use that iOS device to send commands directly to the HTX2, which controls AV equipment using serial ports, IR ports, IP (TCP/UDP) and SPDT relays. Over 300,000 IR codes are built-in, but more can be added using the IR Learner feature.
HAI says that template can be modified, created or purchased from third-party companies. Users can also create macro buttons such a “Play Movie” to activate a chain of commands at the touch of one button.
HAI’s HTX2 app, the HTX2 Mobile Designer software, and the HTX2 are all available now.
