Starting today, TiVo subscribers can purchase products through their DVR service—and Amazon.
TiVo has been wheeling and dealing a lot lately.
Just last week, the company, which has become synonymous with digital video recording, announced a deal that would offer subscribers access to YouTube. Now they are creating an even deeper crevice in your couch, with access to products on Amazon.
Starting today, TiVo will introduce a “product purchase” feature to its DVR service. According to The New York Times, this means if Oprah is plugging her book of the month, you can instantly order it without having to move from the couch.
If you’re on the fence about purchases (imagine all of those impulse buys!), you can just add it to an online shopping cart, in case you don’t wise up later.
For now, it appears that your shopping pleasure will be limited. The company says that the service is “including but not limited to” products seen on Oprah, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Colbert Report” and USA Network’s “Burn Notice.” In upcoming months, expect TiVo to offer the service to its advertisers, meaning you’ll get the chance to buy up even more items, in both commercials or even live TV shows.
