Amazon recently sent an email to customers that purchased an HD DVD player prior to February 23.
Not to be showed up by the Best Buys and Wal-Marts of the world, Amazon wants to offer condolences to the HD DVD crowd too.
Amidst the hundreds of spammy offers I get everyday, I found a nice little surprise in my email yesterday: $50 back from Amazon. If you purchased your player from them, the e-tailer has offered credit off a future purchase—and you don’t even have to return the player.
“New technologies don’t always work out as planned,” the email says. “We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.”
That’s awfully nice of them, because let’s face it; that return would be way more of a hassle than it’s worth.
Amazon has sent the offer to anyone that purchased the player before February 23, 2008. Gizmodo says they encourage it to be used towards Blu-ray purchases, but you’re basically free to buy whatever you want.
Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City have all recently offered returns on HD DVD player purchases.

Do you know where I would go to find the offer… I don’t recall getting an email, but I purchased an HDDVD player for a Christmas present.
Thanks
Ha! Well that would be something… but I guess it’s better than nothing.
It’s not quite as amazing as it seems, BBY has already done the exact same thing - only with a gift card. When somebody starts to exchange purchased HDDVD players for Blu-ray, I’ll start getting excited.

Hey Meric543: I don’t think they are advertising it online. Someone might be able to correct me on that…
I received an email, which included a special promotional code. I don’t think all codes are the same. Again, I’m not sure.
My advice is to email Amazon.com customer service. I have had pretty good luck with them. Also, they should definitely have a record of your purchase.
Good luck!
