Allio TV Has Blu-ray, PVR, PC and More
New all-in-one high-def LCD is now available in 32- and 42-inch models.
November 10, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

Most of you have probably never heard of Silicon Mountain Holdings. Despite the name not rolling off your tongue or brain, the company is looking to break into your living room with its Allio HDTV.

What sets the unit apart from a Sony, Samsung, Panasonic or other unit isn’t the name or even a super picture (which remains to be seen); it’s that the new TV packs pretty much every imaginable feature into a 32- or 42-inch set. Aside from the high-def, the TV includes a DVD/Blu-ray player, a PVR, a PC with an Intel Core2 Duo processor, wired/wireless networking, and 500GB of storage. Sounds like it could be worth a peek, especially if you don’t have room for all of those individual components.

Another juicy little nugget is that the unit has a split-screen feature, which means you can surf the web on one side, while playing video games on the other. It even comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Now if we only knew how the unit performed. The unit only has a measly 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and we’re not sure what the profile looks like.

Also, units start at $1,600, but if you want the Blu-ray, etc., that price jumps to a $2,200 starting point. That, combined with the company’s mysterious spot in the marketplace, could certainly be the dynamic duo of deal-breakers. Right now, the unit is only available on the Visionman website. The company says other retail availability should be coming soon.
