The little alien head might make you think “X-Files” but it should also have you thinking high performance. That’s what Alienware is known for with its PCs, especially for those who use them for graphics-intensive gaming. Now the company has released what it calls an HD Entertainment Center with its Hangar18 product.

The Hangar18 seems to be part Apple TV, part TiVo, part PC all wrapped in one rack-like black component.

The component features 720p HDMI out as standard, and 1080p HDMI 1.3 out as an option, with dual TV combo tuners and up to four tuners (two analog, two HD) optional. It can store up to 2 terabytes of data, and operates on the Windows Vista platform.

Alienware says Hangar18 allows consumers to:

  • Watch, pause, and record your movies, TV shows, photos, and internet videos on your widescreen TV in high definition
  • Listen to all your favorite songs and artists with Hangar18’s onboard 5.1 surround sound amplifier
  • Wirelessly stream all your media to other PCs, mobile devices, and media extenders throughout your home
  • Download content from all over the internet to one secure location to store and share with your home and others

Pricing begins at $1,999. Go to www.alienware.com for more information.
