The classics just never go out of style. Recently we’ve seen the likes of MartinLogan mark the 25th anniversary of its CLX speaker with a $25K anniversary edition and Goldmund celebrate its Reference II turntable with a 25th anniversary limited edition relaunch of the $300,000 player.

British-based loudspeaker manufacturer Acoustic Energy is joining the limited edition act with the introduction of its AE1 Mk III SE bookshelf speakers, which aren’t quite as stratospheric at $5,000 a pair.

The audiophile-grade models are designed after the company’s classic AE1 version, and only 100 matched numbered pairs of the bookshelf speakers will be available.

After 20 years, the technology and finish have been updated. Twin neodymium magnets and a 32-mm voice-coil highlight the motor assembly, to go with a 38-mm ring-radiator tweeter and pressed alloy cone bass driver. A heavily braced 18-mm MDF cabinet lined with 4-mm steel plate, plus die-cast magnesium alloy chassis make for a rigid, well-dampened enclosure—forget about unwanted resonances or vibrations here.

The sharp-looking exterior comes in four custom finishes—eight-layer piano black, cherry wood veneer, pearl white, and bespoke finishes (which can be painted however you like).

The audio on this classic might be timeless, but be sure to get a pair before they run out.
