Watching movies or TV on your laptop may work in a pinch, but it doesn’t make for the most entertaining experience—yet.
Acer just announced the Gemstone Blue line, which will include a Blu-ray drive, 1920 x 1080 resolution, six speakers and a subwoofer. Six speakers have to be better than two, right? Maybe the sound will distract you from the fact that you are still only watching an 18.4- or 16-inch screen.
Still—it’s pretty darn slick, with features such as the CineDash media console. This touch-sensitive control pad allows navigation of music, videos, and other menus. Other specs include a 1- or 2-hard disk drive (up to 320GB each), a NVIDIA graphics card, a webcam, and plenty of ports, including HDMI.
Don’t expect all of that tech to weigh you down. Gizmodo says the 18.4-inch model is 9 pounds, with the 16-incher weighing in at 8.
The 6-speaker Gemstone Blue goes on sale next month for $1,999; a 3-speaker model will run $1,699.
