Want to have your home entertainment or computer performance and still save energy? Cable and power product manufacturer Monster has introduced two lines of GreenPower products aimed at home entertainment and PC users.

Monster says the products will help eliminate energy wasted while electronics idle in standby mode, which still uses electricity even when they are turned “off.”

For home entertainment users, Monster’s GreenPower IR Control is featured on the remote-control enabled EPIR 2450 ($500), EPIR 3650 ($600), and HDP 2550 ($500) PowerCenters that let users eliminate stand-by energy waste with their remote control. Each of these PowerCenters features remote controlled outlets that can be completely switched off using any universal learning remote. Users simply plug their HDTV or other energy wasting electronics into these outlets and add the PowerCenter to their remote. They can use the remote to cut power to components that would ordinarily use electricity even when their home theater isn’t on. EPIR 2450 has three outlets, EPIR 3650 has four outlets and HDP IR 2550 has two outlets that can be turned on or off by remote control.

In addition, Monster introduced three Digital Life products aimed at PC users, the MDP 900 ($129), MDP 800 ($99) and MDP 650 ($69.95) PowerCenters. The Digital Life PowerCenters are geared toward computer use and feature Monster GreenPower Outlet Management that works automatically to eliminate energy waste in connected PC systems. Users simply plug their computer into the GreenPower Control outlet, then plug their additional connected PC peripherals (printer, monitor, scanner, loudspeakers, etc.) into the specially marked Monster GreenPower Controlled outlets. When the computer is turned off or goes to sleep, the other GreenPower outlets automatically switch off, eliminating the energy wasted by peripheral components when they’re not in use. When the computer turns back on, the GreenPower outlets automatically power up the peripherals again. Users can also plug their modems, wireless routers, and printers into unswitched outlets to keep their wireless network and printing up and running while the main computer system is off.
