It’s a multipurpose room to the max. This 6,000-square-foot basement in Ladue, Mo., works as home theater and doubles as a dance floor, performance stage and bar. When the homeowners aren’t taking part in Hindu rituals or watching DVDs from their native India, they’re reveling in the local culture of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and teenage dances.
“The space is mainly used for live performance,” says integrator Anthony Ledwon, who installed the Elan audio system that fills the space with sound. The room still had to deliver enough audio for recorded music, too, so Ledwon tucked a dozen speakers into the ceiling.
“Instead of going for top-end sound, we wanted to fill the room when the kids have dances,” he says. A thousand watts powers the room at any given time.
A Lutron HomeWorks lighting control system manages the dance floor, bar and cove lights beneath the ceiling. Ledwon integrated HomeWorks into the Elan control system to consolidate the number of controllers in the room.
The LG 32-inch TV above the bar provides small-scale entertainment when the 160-inch screen across the room isn’t in use. Ledwon used a cantilevered Omnimount bracket to achieve the desired effect. “It looks like it’s floating on the wall,” he says.
